Libya has confirmed the death in an air crash of the country’s Libyan army chief while returning from a trip in Turkey.
Gen Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad died along with four other military officers when the Falcon 50 aircraft they were travelling in from the Turkish capital, Ankara crashed some 42 minutes after takeoff.
There were three crew members who also perished in the crash of the aircraft which was bound for the Libyan capital Tripoli.
Gen Haddad and his team were in Ankara to strengthen military and security co-operation between Libya and Turkey.
in a statement the Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the ill-fated plane had made distress call for an emergency landing but its signal lost at 20:52 local time after it took off from the airport in Ankara.
Turkish authorities say a wreckage found south-west of Ankara was identified as the crashed plane whose voice recorder and black box were also recovered near the site of the crash.
