Kenya Airways plane experienced a tyre burst while landing in Cape Town International Airport, South Africa on Tuesday, leading to flight disruption at the airport and cancellation of return flight to Nairobi.
The airway’s customer update issued on Tuesday said the flight KQ784, which was operating a scheduled service from Nairobi to Cape Town, landed safely at approximately 3.30 pm local time before experiencing a tyre burst upon landing.
It said all passengers and crews disembarked safely but the return flight was cancelled as engineers and technical teams worked to repair the aircraft.
“The incident led to the cancellation of the return flight, KQ785, We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this incident has caused. We thank our customers for their patience, cooperation and support, and our crew for their professionalism,” the airline said.
Kenya Airways said it will contact affected passengers directly to provide further assistance and advised those requiring support to reach its customer service channels.
South Africa’s airports management company said the Kenya Airways plane was disabled on the main runway for several hours before it reopened for the resumption of flights.
