Senegalese-Italian influencer Khaby Lame has been officially appointed an ambassador for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), which takes place from October 31 to November
13 this year.
The appointment will help to boost the visibility of the historic event for Africa.
Born in Dakar in 2000 to Senegalese parents from Mbacké, Khaby Lame grew up in Italy, where he gained worldwide recognition for his humorous, wordless videos on social media.
His rise to prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 propelled him to the forefront of global influencers, thanks to a universal style based on simple and expressive gestures.
In his statement, he emphasised that “this commitment reflects my desire to support young African talent” and that Dakar 2026 represents “an opportunity to showcase the best of the continent,” he stated on Olympics.com after his appointment.
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will be held in three host cities: Dakar, Saly, and Diamniadio,
marking the first time an Olympic event will be held on African soil.
As an ambassador, Mr. Lame will participate in several major initiatives, including promoting the Games, youth campaigns, and events such as the Olympic torch relay.
His role is a continuation of his commitment to young people, following his appointment in 2025 as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
An influential figure for younger generations, he embodies a model of success and perseverance for African youth. Throughout his career, Lame has collaborated with international personalities such as Snoop Dogg, Idris Elba, and Lionel Messi.
