The authorities in Khartoum have accused Ethiopia of allowing militias of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces access to its territory as they captured the Sudanese border town of Kurmuk, APA learnt on Tuesday.
The government in Khartoum said Addis Ababa facilitated the movement of RSF forces and their Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) allies to move freely inside Ethiopian territory on their way to attack the town and occupy it from Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) troops.
Ethiopia have not responded to the accusation by Khartoum whose authorities had made similar allegations last month when they claimed that the RSF and SPLM-N fighters had attacked Blue Nile State through Ethiopian territory.
A research by Reuters aso suggested that an RSF training camp has been established inside Ethiopia while supplies for the militias pass through Ethiopian territory.
According to Agenzia Fides, the information arm of the Pontifical Mission Societies, ”opening new supply routes for the RSF is part of the United Arab Emirates’ strategy to circumvent restrictions imposed by states that support the Sudanese government—most notably Egypt”.
Since the conflict in Sudan began in April 2023, the UAE had allegedly provided support to the RSF led by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo.
There are reports that they had also received the backing of Chad, neighbouring Ethiopia, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic.
