Malawi has begun another round of nationwide polio vaccination campaign targeting children under 10, with Health Minister Madalitso Baloyi urging tight coordination among all stakeholders to ensure the exercise reaches every eligible child.
The four‑day campaign, running from 27 to 30 April, is part of ongoing national efforts to prevent a resurgence of the virus.
Baloyi said the success of the campaign depended on strong collaboration between government departments, community leaders, health partners and frontline workers.
The minister said the latest round of vaccinations was a critical opportunity to close immunity gaps and strengthen Malawi’s defences against polio, which remains a threat in parts of the region despite recent progress in reducing transmission.
Malawi has conducted several nationwide polio campaigns since detecting a case in 2022, part of a broader regional response coordinated with neighbouring countries.
Health authorities say the current campaign aims to reinforce immunity and prevent any further spread of the virus.
Baloyi said the government would continue working closely with partners to ensure that every child under 10 receives the vaccine, adding that community mobilisation remained central to achieving full coverage.
