Malawi has launched a nationwide polio vaccination campaign after a suspected case was detected in Blantyre and Phalombe, prompting authorities to expand the vaccination age range from five to 10 years.
Health officials say the campaign aims to reach millions of children across the country.
The Ministry of Health said the expanded age group is intended to strengthen protection following the suspected case, which comes as Malawi continues efforts to prevent a resurgence of the virus.
Officials urged parents, guardians and community leaders to mobilise children for vaccination, warning that polio remains a dangerous disease that can cause paralysis and long‑term disability.
Health authorities are conducting door‑to‑door vaccinations and reaching children in schools, early childhood centres and health facilities to maximise coverage.
The campaign is running from 24-27 March, but parents have been urged to continue routine immunisation to ensure long‑term protection.
