Mali has received a new shipment of military equipment from China, marking a new phase in the modernization of its armed forces.
The delivery, which arrived in early September 2025, includes a variety of advanced vehicles and weapons systems.
The consignment includes SR-5 multiple rocket launcher systems, which can fire long-range rockets for more precise strikes against armed groups. The delivery also features CS/VP14 MRAP armored vehicles, designed to withstand explosions, and VN22 IFV infantry fighting vehicles, which are equipped with a 30mm automatic cannon and anti-tank missiles.
The new equipment arrived through the port of Conakry, Guinea, before being transported by land to Bamako. According to Mali’s transitional government, led by General Assimi Goita, this acquisition shows the country’s commitment to diversifying its military partnerships, particularly with China and Russia, following the departure of French forces in 2022.
This military upgrade comes as the Malian army faces a surge in attacks in the northern and central parts of the country. For the government, the new equipment is a major strategic asset in the fight against armed groups.
