For the first time, Morocco will host the global gathering of consular diplomacy, held this year under the theme ”Dialogue, Youth, and Innovation”.
More than 120 ambassadors, honorary consuls, and delegates from around the world will convene in Marrakech from October 29 to November 1 for the 14th World Congress of Consuls.
The event is jointly organised by the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) and the Union of Honorary Consuls in Morocco (UCHM). This year’s edition highlights the kingdom’s growing role in regional diplomacy and international cooperation.
The opening ceremony will be presided over by Nikolaos K. Margaropoulos, President of FICAC, and Atman Haloui, President of UCHM, with the participation of Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, former President of Croatia.
The congress aims to strengthen the ties between official diplomacy and consular representation—key pillars of grassroots diplomacy.
On October 30, two major panels will anchor the discussions: “Bridging Nations in Modern Times”, focused on connecting peoples through youth, culture, and humanitarian engagement; and “Navigating Modern Diplomacy”, addressing the contemporary challenges of consular diplomacy, from cybersecurity and public health to technological innovation and global solidarity.
The sessions will also explore climate issues and the protection of citizens abroad amid rising global threats and cyber risks. Organisers emphasise a more inclusive and human-centered approach to international relations—one that prioritises cultural cooperation and civic diplomacy.
The congress will also feature the FICAC General Assembly and the election of a new Board of Directors. Proceedings will conclude with a gala dinner attended by Moroccan officials and members of the international consular corps.
Founded in 1982, the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) brings together over 9,000 honorary consuls from 95 countries, promoting mutual understanding and facilitating economic, cultural, and social exchange.
The Union of Honorary Consuls in Morocco (UCHM), for its part, works to position Morocco as a regional hub for cooperation and dialogue among nations.
