Speaking at the opening of the 3rd South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum in Rabat on Monday, Morocco reiterated its strong conviction in the capacity of nations in the Global South to achieve self-renewal and accelerate their development trajectories.
In a speech delivered on his behalf at the forum, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita underscored the pressing need for countries of the South to intensify their cooperation and cultivate strategic and mutually supportive partnerships.
He emphasized that this commitment aligns with the dynamic momentum generated by the “Rabat, Capital of South-South Cooperation” Declaration and is actively reflected in several key Moroccan initiatives. These include the African Atlantic States Process, the Initiative for Sahelian Access to the Atlantic Ocean, and the ambitious Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project. Minister Bourita further highlighted the indispensable role of parliamentary diplomacy in bolstering this movement, asserting that interregional exchanges serve as crucial levers for effectively addressing shared challenges related to peace, security, and sustainable development across the Global South.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives of Morocco, Rachid Talbi El Alami, affirmed that the continued growth and prosperity of countries in the Global South hinge on their collective ability to establish lasting peace, invest in the development of human resources – particularly the youth demographic – and effectively harness their inherent natural potential. He stressed the critical need for strengthened cooperation and the facilitation of technology transfers among nations within the Global South to achieve these objectives.
The forum in Rabat drew the participation of representatives from 25 countries and 13 parliamentary unions, convening against an international backdrop marked by significant geopolitical tensions and the growing imperative to foster balanced and equitable partnerships. Through the hosting of this important dialogue, Morocco reaffirms its unwavering position as a driving force behind the promotion of South-South dialogue and collaboration on the global stage.
