Morocco and Ethiopia signed a military cooperation agreement on Tuesday in Rabat covering training, research, military health, and the exchange of expertise.
The new defense accord reflects the growing strength of the strategic Morocco–Ethiopia partnership in the security and defense sectors.
The signing took place during the official visit of Ethiopian Defense Minister Aysha Mohammed Mussa, in line with the High Royal Instructions, according to a statement from Morocco’s Administration of National Defense.
On this occasion, Minister Delegate in charge of the Administration of National Defense, Abdeltif Loudyi, hosted his Ethiopian counterpart and her high-level delegation.
General of the Army Corps Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, was also present at the signing ceremony.
The agreement provides for the establishment of a joint military commission that will meet alternately in Rabat and Addis Ababa to set bilateral cooperation priorities.
Both officials welcomed the alignment of their countries’ positions on peace and security issues across the African continent.
They also emphasised the importance of South–South cooperation initiatives launched by Morocco under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, aimed at strengthening regional integration.
