Morocco and The Gambia have taken a further step in their institutional cooperation with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between their respective authorities responsible for the
right of access to information.
This agreement aims to strengthen the exchange of expertise and promote best practices in transparency and public governance.
The Moroccan Commission for the Right of Access to Information (CDAI) and the Gambian Information Commission concluded the partnership agreement to establish a framework for sustainable cooperation between the two institutions.
According to the signatories, this partnership aims to foster the sharing of experiences and skills in the effective implementation of the right of access to information, considered a key driver of administrative transparency and good governance.
The memorandum notably provides for the organization of technical exchanges, conferences, joint research projects, and capacity-building programs for both commissions. The two parties also intend to develop regular cooperation on institutional mechanisms, legal frameworks, and practices that improve citizens’ access to public information.
Beyond its bilateral dimension, this agreement is part of a broader dynamic of African cooperation aimed at aligning national approaches to information governance and strengthening the capacities of independent institutions responsible for guaranteeing this fundamental right.
The planned exchanges should contribute to the dissemination of common standards and the development of networks of expertise across the continent.
The signing of the memorandum comes at a time marked by the strengthening of The Gambia’s integration within specialised African bodies.
The Gambian Information Commission was recently unanimously admitted to the African Network of Information Commissions (ANIC), a membership that paves the way for increased cooperation between national authorities responsible for promoting the right of access to information in Africa.
This development reinforces the efforts undertaken by both countries to promote more transparent governance and strengthen public institutions.
