Pakistani Defense Minister Muhammad Asif Khawajam, who is on a working visit to Morocco, was received on Tuesday in Rabat by Abdeltif Loudyi, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the Moroccan National Defense Administration.
The three-day visit, which is part of efforts to strengthen and diversify bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of defense, according to a statement from the National Defense Administration.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, as well as the Pakistani Ambassador to Rabat, Syed Adil Gilani.
The memorandum of understanding, which covers several areas deemed priorities by both parties, provides for enhanced
cooperation in training and exercises, the organization of joint
exercises, cybersecurity capability development and partnerships in the defense industry and military health.
The agreement also includes the exchange of experiences and expertise in other areas of common interest, while establishing a joint monitoring and coordination mechanism to ensure the effective implementation of agreed-upon actions.
During the meeting, the two officials emphasized the importance of the partnership between the two countries and also reviewed the various aspects of bilateral military cooperation and ways to further strengthen it in areas of common interest.
This meeting also provided an opportunity to highlight the various South-South cooperation and regional integration initiatives launched under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, making Morocco a key player in stability and an exporter of peace and security to its neighbouring countries.
In this context, the two ministers emphasized the importance of forging strategic partnerships between Morocco and Pakistan within the framework of South-South cooperation that will benefit the development of both countries, the source added.
According to the statement, the two officials expressed their shared ambition and commitment to strengthening these relations in the future, particularly through the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of defense.
