Morocco is participating in a continental consultation on labor migration, taking place from June 16 to 18 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event is an initiative of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), in partnership with the African Union (AU) Commission and the International Labor Organization (ILO).
The Nairobi forum is part of a collaborative process involving the PAP, AU Commission, and ILO, aimed at developing a model law on labor migration across Africa.
The Moroccan delegation is represented by Hanaa Benkhair, Parliamentary Counsel and member of the PAP. Benkhair emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to achieving equitable and harmonized continental governance of migration flows. “Morocco’s participation reflects its desire to contribute to building a united, secure, and prosperous Africa, and to establishing protective legislative mechanisms for migrant workers,” she told MAP.
This consultation brings together parliamentarians, African institutions, civil society representatives, and experts from the AU and ILO. The goal is to delve deeper into human rights, legal issues, and development aspects related to labor migration. The overarching objective is to propose a harmonized legislative framework that guarantees the protection of migrant workers’ rights while simultaneously promoting their economic and social integration across the continent.
The Pan-African Parliament, established in 2004 and based in Johannesburg, serves as the legislative consultative body of the African Union, as stipulated in Article 5 of the continental organization’s Constitutive Act.
