Morocco and Rwanda have taken a significant step in strengthening their bilateral relations with the signing of a landmark military cooperation agreement on Wednesday in Rabat.
The deal reflects Morocco’s broader strategy to diversify its military partnerships across Africa, moving beyond its traditional alliances.
The agreement was signed during the official visit of Rwandan Minister of Defence Juvenal Marizamunda, who was received by Abdellatif Loudiyi, the Moroccan Minister Delegate for National Defence Administration. Rwanda’s Ambassador to Morocco also attended the high-level meeting.
Under the agreement, both countries have committed to enhancing their cooperation in several key areas, including training, joint exercises, logistics support, military healthcare, technical assistance, and knowledge sharing.
A joint military commission will be established to oversee the implementation of the cooperation framework, with meetings to be held alternately in Rabat and Kigali.
Both ministers praised the alignment of their countries’ views on Africa’s security challenges and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening existing ties. They also emphasised the need for the full implementation of the commitments undertaken.
The meeting underscored the importance of South-South cooperation and regional integration as pillars of peace and stability on the continent.
The agreement confirms the growing role of both Morocco and Rwanda as proactive partners in building a shared African future.
