Morocco is set to send a delegation of 30 athletes—18 men and 12 women—to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, which will take place from September 13 to 21, 2025.
The Moroccan team includes some of its most accomplished athletes, with a wide range of competitors in middle-distance running, sprints, hurdles, and the marathon.
The men’s team features well-known stars like Soufiane El Bakkali, the two-time world champion in the 3,000m steeplechase, and marathon specialist Mohamed Reda El Aaraby. They will be joined by up-and-coming talents like Anass Essayi, Salaheddine Ben Yazide, and Hafid Rizqy.
On the women’s side, the team includes Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi, a bronze medalist in the marathon at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Other top athletes to watch are Assia Raziki, Soukaina Hajji, and Noura Ennadi.
The team is a mix of generations, with the oldest athlete, Souad Kabouchia, at 43, and the youngest, Bahiya El Arfaoui, at 20. Morocco has a strong history in the sport, with a total of 33 world medals to its name.
