Paris Saint-Germain’s Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi has been awarded the 2024-2025 Marc-Vivien Foe Prize, recognizing him as the best African player in France’s Ligue 1, RFI-France 24 announced today, Monday, May 12th.
Hakimi, 26, who joined PSG in 2021, topped the vote for the prestigious award. This was his fourth nomination, having finished second in 2024 behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. This year, he decisively outperformed Ivorian Evann Guessand (OGC Nice) and Senegalese Habib Diarra (RC Strasbourg). The winner was chosen by a jury of approximately 100 journalists and experts in African and French football, following an initial selection of 12 players by the sports departments of RFI and France 24.
Hakimi has stood out this season with his outstanding contributions, including eight assists and four goals. He also played a crucial central defensive role for a PSG team that remained undefeated for the first 30 Ligue 1 matches. As PSG’s vice-captain, he was a pivotal figure in the club’s league title victory.
He becomes only the second defender to win the award, after Congolese Chancel Mbemba in 2023, and the fourth Moroccan player to be honored, following Marouane Chamakh, Younes Belhanda, and Sofiane Boufal. This accolade further solidifies Achraf Hakimi’s status as a key player for both his club and the Moroccan national team.
