Mozambican President Daniel Chapo hosted his Namibian counterpart Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in Maputo on Monday for high-level discussions aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
The meeting is part of an ongoing tour of southern Africa by Nandi-Ndaitwah who is formally introducing herself following her inauguration as Namibia’s first woman president in March.
The two leaders, both elected in November 2024, reaffirmed the strong diplomatic and political relations between their nations but noted the need to transform these ties into concrete economic partnerships.
Chapo and Nandi-Ndaitwah discussed strategies to enhance bilateral trade and improve cross-border commerce, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries and logistics.
Both governments pledged to explore new initiatives that could boost economic resilience and create job opportunities.
A statement from Namibia’s Presidency highlighted their shared commitment to improving livelihoods through deeper cooperation.
Mozambique and Namibia have long enjoyed cordial relations, collaborating on areas such as trade, energy and maritime security.
However, economic integration has lagged behind, prompting calls for accelerated efforts in infrastructure development, investment promotion and private-sector engagement.
