Mozambique’s Coral Sul floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) platform has reached a major milestone with the completion of its 100th shipment of LNG last Friday.
Anchored off the coast of Cabo Delgado province, the platform has been consistently exporting approximately one shipment per week since operations began in November 2022.
Operated by the Italian energy major Eni, Coral Sul FLNG represents a cornerstone of Mozambique’s energy sector, contributing significantly to the country’s ambitions of providing clean and reliable energy alternatives to global markets.
The achievement was announced by the Mozambique National Petroleum Institute (INP), which praised the platform for meeting operational objectives with optimal safety standards.
INP chairperson Nazario Bangalane said the milestone demonstrated Mozambique’s potential in the global energy sector.
“This landmark bears witness to the quality of Mozambican gas and the energy potential to meet the needs of a world that is thirsty for clean energy,” Bangalane said in a statement.
With exports primarily reaching Asian markets, the floating platform is hailed as a transformative initiative for both Mozambique and the world’s clean energy transition.
Coral Sul FLNG is operated by Eni on behalf of Mozambique Rovuma Venture, a consortium that includes ExxonMobil and China National Petroleum Corporation, which collectively hold 70 percent of the shares.
The remaining 30 percent is divided equally among Mozambique’s National Hydrocarbon Company, Galp of Portugal and Kogas of South Korea.
