The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday defeated their Rwandan counterparts 1-0 in the second leg of the World Cup qualifiers.
The match played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State saw the Super Eagles score the lone goal in the 51st minute of the game through Tolu Arokodare, who slotted in a loose ball in the 18-yard box that beat the Rwanda’s goalkeeper.
This victory has restored Nigeria’s hope of qualifying for the World Cup in the United States in 2026.
The first leg of the qualifier played earlier in Rwanda ended 2-0 in favour of the Super Eagles.
With this victory, Nigeria is placed third in Group C with 10 behind second placed Benin with 11 points and South Africa toping the group with 16 points.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will play South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Tuesday next week for the second leg of the qualifier. The first leg of the qualifier played earlier in Nigeria ended in a 1-1.draw.
