A total turnover of 2.200 billion shares worth N75.409 billion in 70,329 deals was traded this four-day trading week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange.
The market opened for four trading days this week as the Federal Government of Nigeria declared Thursday, May 1, 2025 as Public Holidays to commemorate 2025 Workers’ Day celebration.
The weekly report of transactions released on Friday by the Nigerian Exchange showed that the figures were in contrast to a total of 1.854 billion shares valued at N56.025 billion that exchanged hands last week in 51,386 deals.
The report added that the Financial Services led the activity chart with 1.432 billion shares valued at N30.908 billion traded in 33,095 deals, while the ICT industry followed with 230.248 million shares worth N27.453 billion in 4,811 deals and third place was the Consumer Goods Industry, with a turnover of 166.345 million shares worth N4.708 billion in 8,284 deals.
According to the report, trading in the top three equities namely Fidelity Bank Plc, Access Holdings Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc accounted for 704.639 million shares worth N16.757 billion in 10,466 deals, contributing 32.03% and 22.22% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
A total of 1.039 million units valued at N43.613 million were traded this week in 83 deals compared with a total of 442,959 units valued at N22.567 million transacted last week in 59 deals
In the Bonds section, a total of 6,327 units valued at N5.689 million were traded this week in 15 deals compared with a total of 68,561 units valued at N69.173 million transacted last week in 17 deals.
The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 0.27% and 0.28% to close the week at 106,042.57 and N66.648 trillion respectively.
Similarly, all other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Banking, NGX
Insurance, NGX AFR Bank Value, NGX MERI Value, NGX Oil & Gas, NGX Lotus II, NGX Sovereign Bond and NGX Commodity Indices, which depreciated by 0.38%, 2.89%, 0.04%, 2.08%, 2.90%, 0.01%, 0.19% and 1.12% respectively. ($1=N1606)
