A total turnover of 5.494 billion shares worth ₦196.709 billion in 370,233 deals was traded this week by investors on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).
According to the weekly report of transactions released on Friday in Lagos by the NGX, the figures were in contrast to a total of 7.662 billion shares valued at ₦252.566 billion that exchanged hands last week in 345,118 deals.
The report stated that the Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 3.241 billion shares valued at ₦82.775 billion traded in 153,744 deals, while the Oil and Gas Industry followed with 897.862 million shares worth ₦38.816 billion in 29,179 deals and the third place was the Services Industry, with a turnover of 360.490 million shares worth ₦5.782 billion in 22,971 deals.
Trading in the top three equities, namely Japaul Gold & Ventures Plc, Fortis Global Insurance Plc and Zenith Bank Plc, accounted for 1.576 billion shares worth ₦33.464 billion in 30,055 deals, contributing 28.68% and 17.01% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
A total of 3.603 million units valued at ₦409.595 million were traded this week in 4,115 deals compared with a total of 3.837 million units valued at ₦547.380 million, transacted last week in 5,252 deals.
In the Bonds section, a total of 579,488 units valued at ₦585.173 million were traded this week in 44 deals compared with a total of 246,779 units valued at ₦256.629 million transacted last week in 39 deals.
The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization depreciated by 1.11% and 1.12% to close the week at 192,826.78 and ₦123.763 trillion respectively.
