The OCP Foundation significantly amplified its social and environmental impact across Africa in 2024, demonstrating its strategic focus on empowering people, advancing education, and fostering research to build a resilient, self-reliant, and forward-looking continent, from Dakar to Dar es Salaam.
The Foundation’s latest activity report highlights a substantial reach, supporting 89,446 beneficiaries across 13 African countries in 2024. Notably, a majority of these beneficiaries (48,784) were women, underscoring the organization’s commitment to gender equality. This impact was achieved through 221 diverse projects implemented in close collaboration with 281 partner institutions. Key initiatives included the reforestation of 590 hectares of land, improved access to quality education, the promotion of women’s economic empowerment, and capacity building in research and technological development.
Education remains a core strategic priority for the OCP Foundation, with 75,234 individuals benefiting from its programs in this area, 54% of whom were women. This was facilitated through active partnerships with 97 educational institutions, with a strong emphasis on fostering academic excellence through collaborations with prestigious institutions such as the Mohammed VI High School of Excellence in Benguerir and Lydex in Rabat.
Following the devastating Al Haouz earthquake in Morocco, the Foundation swiftly mobilized significant resources to ensure the continuity of education for affected communities. This included the rehabilitation of 436 school modules, the modernization of 263 classrooms, and the construction of 100 essential restroom facilities. The Foundation also extended dedicated support to vulnerable groups, coordinating with specialized organizations to provide care for 120 children with Down syndrome and 48 autistic children.
Embracing a spirit of shared innovation, the OCP Foundation supported 153 research and technology transfer projects, actively involving 612 researchers, with nearly half being women. These projects spanned strategically important sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and energy.
On the economic empowerment front, 2024 saw the Foundation providing support to 306 cooperatives, representing 1,115 beneficiaries, with an impressive 71% being women. Through targeted training programs benefiting 729 individuals, the Foundation contributed to strengthening the local economic fabric by promoting a resilient cooperative model aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), actively contributing to the momentum of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025.
Growing influence across Africa:
Beyond its significant work within Morocco, the OCP Foundation has actively expanded its impact across the African continent through tailored projects designed to address specific local needs and contexts. The “Imagining Africa’s Futures” program, a collaborative initiative with UNESCO and the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), has played a crucial role in strengthening the foresight capacities of several African nations in the critical areas of innovation, technology, and scientific research.
Simultaneously, the Foundation has implemented initiatives focused on preserving valuable traditional knowledge while enhancing the resilience of local producers. These efforts are geared towards promoting the equitable and sustainable development of regional ecosystems across the continent.
Through its strategic partnerships, its adaptability to diverse local contexts, and its deep roots within communities, the OCP Foundation is increasingly positioning itself as a vital catalyst for transformative change on an international scale, effectively harmonizing social, environmental, and economic imperatives for a more sustainable future for Africa.
