More than 45 African heads of state and government are expected to attend the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) in Ethiopia in what is billed as a landmark moment for the continent’s climate leadership.
Jointly convened by the Ethiopian government and the African Union Commission (AUC), the summit – set for 8-10 September in Addis Ababa – will bring together policymakers, technical experts, civil society and global partners under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development.”
Ethiopian Planning and Development Minister Fitsum Assefa said the summit will provide platform that reflects Africa’s climate priorities and drives real outcomes.
“ACS2 is that platform. It brings voices together, builds alignment and alliances, and creates the space to turn ambition into action on our terms,” she said.
Building on the momentum of the inaugural 2023 Nairobi Summit, ACS2 aims to position Africa as a solutions provider in global climate negotiations.
The summit will feature high-level plenaries, ministerial roundtables, youth forums and regional pavilions, spotlighting African-led innovations in energy, food systems, and climate-smart infrastructure.
The summit is strategically timed between the G20, UN General Assembly and COP30, offering Africa a unified voice to shape global climate and finance agendas.
AUC agriculture and sustainable environment commissioner Moses Vilakati said ACS2 provides a crucial moment for Africa “to show leadership in climate actions and showcase the continent as a solution provider.”
