Paraguay has officially declared its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and announced plans to open a consulate in the southern provinces.
The announcement was made Monday by Paraguayan Foreign Minister Rubén Darío Ramírez Lezcano on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Paraguayan minister met with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, to discuss strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries. The discussions are a prelude to an upcoming official visit by Paraguayan President Santiago Peña Palacios to Morocco. Lezcano also plans to visit Morocco before the end of the year to continue bilateral talks.
This move by Paraguay adds to the growing number of countries that have expressed support for Morocco’s position, signaling the continued consolidation of global diplomatic support for Rabat.
