The 2025 Ballon d’Or has been awarded to Ousmane Dembélé of Paris Saint-Germain, but African players also made a strong showing.
Morocco’s captain and PSG teammate, Achraf Hakimi, finished in a historic sixth place, while Guinean striker Sehrou Guirassy ranked 21st.
Hakimi’s sixth-place finish is the highest ranking ever for a Moroccan player, surpassing Yassine Bounou’s 13th place in 2023. The versatile full-back had an outstanding season, tallying 11 goals and 16 assists—a rare feat for a defender. He was also a crucial part of PSG’s historic treble, winning the Champions League, Ligue 1, and the Coupe de France.
Despite a record-breaking season, Sehrou Guirassy’s impressive performance with Borussia Dortmund was not enough to crack the top 20. The Guinean international was the top scorer in the Champions League with 13 goals and scored a total of 50 goals across all competitions. However, his ranking was likely affected by his club’s lack of major trophies and Guinea’s international results.
The prestigious award ultimately went to Dembélé, who was recognized for his 35 goals and 16 assists, as well as his key role in PSG’s title-winning season.
