South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit arrived in Djibouti City on Friday for the official inauguration of Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, who will be sworn in on Saturday for his sixth consecutive term.
The 78-year-old Guelleh won last month’s election by a 98.7 percent landslide condemned by the opposition as a charade.
The election was boycotted by the main opposition.
Kiir was received upon arrival by Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdoulkader Hussein Omar.
He will later hold talks with his Djibotian counterpart focused on strengthening ties between South Sudan and Djibouti.
