The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called on Guinean authorities to restore broadcasting rights for French international news network France 24 and reinstate press credentials for Jeune Afrique correspondent Diawo Barry.
The regulatory High Authority of Communication (HAC) suspended France 24 and stripped its local staff of accreditation following an on-air comment referencing President Mamadi Doumbouya, despite the network issuing both on-air and digital corrections clarifying that Doumbouya assumed office following the December 2025 presidential elections.
Concurrently, the HAC revoked the accreditation of Jeune Afrique reporter Diawo Barry, alleging non-compliance with reporting standards following the news outlet’s publication of a special report on the country’s political climate. Freedom of expression advocates have voiced strong concern over the escalating regulatory sanctions against independent international and domestic journalists, urging Guinean regulators to reverse the punitive measures and ensure an open environment for press coverage across the country.
