The Council of Arab Information Ministers, under the League of Arab States, approved on Wednesday in Cairo the designation of the Moroccan city of Rabat as the Arab Information Capital for 2026.
In a decision issued at the close of its 55th ordinary session, the Council also endorsed the selection of Doha and Damascus as Arab Information Capitals for 2027 and 2028, respectively.
The Council called on Morocco to put in place the necessary measures to develop a comprehensive programme dedicated to the celebration of Rabat’s designation, ensuring that it includes activities and events highlighting Al-Quds Acharif.
It also urged Arab media outlets to give particular attention to the issue of occupied Al-Quds and to work toward implementing the Council’s decision declaring the holy city the eternal Arab Information Capital.
The session addressed the implementation of the Arab Media Code of Honour, follow-up on the Arab media action plan, the fight against terrorism, the 2030 Sustainable Development Roadmap, media education, and environmental communication.
It also discussed relations with major international media corporations, along with organisational matters such as selecting the Arab Information Capital for 2026 and granting observer status to ICESCO and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
