South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Harare on Friday for a working visit and to officiate the opening of the 115th edition of the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show as neighbouring countries moved to strengthen economic cooperation.
Hosted by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Ramaphosa toured exhibition stands before addressing delegates at the country’s largest annual trade and agriculture showcase.
This year’s exhibition is themed “Building Bridges: Connecting Agriculture, Industry and Commerce” and has drawn exhibitors from across Africa and beyond.
The visit comes as trade between the two neighbours continues to grow.
In 2024, South Africa exported goods worth R69.2 billion (about US$3.9 billion) to Zimbabwe, up from R57.5 billion in 2023.
Vegetables topped the export list, contributing R11.9 billion.
Imports from Zimbabwe also rose to R5.4 billion, reflecting deepening commercial ties.
Over 120 South African companies currently operate in Zimbabwe across sectors including mining, aviation, tourism, banking and retail.
Officials say the show provides a strategic platform to promote intra-regional trade and investment within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, organised by the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society, attracted over 570 exhibitors and 230,000 visitors last year.
It remains a key event for showcasing innovation, fostering partnerships and advancing agribusiness across the region.
