With a fleet of more than 50 aircraft, including Boeing 737s, 787 Dreamliners, and Embraer 190s, the Moroccan airline’s strategic objective is to strengthen intra-African connectivity and consolidate Casablanca’s position as a transit hub between Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
On Wednesday, September 17, the national airline, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) inaugurated its new direct route connecting Casablanca to Ndjamena, the capital of Chad, marking a further step in strengthening its African network.
The inaugural flight departed Mohammed V Airport at 11:40 p.m. and landed in Ndjamena at 5:05 a.m. The service will operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
With this launch, RAM brings to 29 the number of direct routes operated to the African continent, consolidating its position among the leading regional carriers.
According to Hamid Addou, Chairman and CEO of Royal Air Maroc, this new connection illustrates the airline’s desire to “strengthen Casablanca’s position as a major hub for global connectivity” and is in line with Morocco’s African strategy, guided by the Royal Vision for South-South Cooperation.
The Casablanca-Ndjamena route aims to meet the needs of Chadian customers, particularly for connections to Europe and the Americas, and to expand RAM’s presence beyond its historical West African route. It also paves the way for a greater presence in Central and East Africa.
This deployment comes amid accelerated fleet modernization, with the introduction of newer aircraft primarily intended for African routes.
The stated objective is to improve comfort, reliability, and safety, while meeting international standards.
With the expansion of its network, Royal Air Maroc intends to strengthen Morocco’s attractiveness as a key transit platform and gateway to Africa for international travellers.
