A delegation from the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation recently conducted an inspection visit to Benghazi’s Benina International Airport, signaling a major step toward the resumption of direct flights between Saudi Arabia and Libya.
The visit is seen as a positive move toward normalising bilateral relations and could serve as a key driver for economic recovery in eastern Libya.
Accompanied by the airport’s director, Saleh Al-Omrani, the Saudi team reviewed critical airport facilities and assessed services available to both domestic and international carriers.
The inspection focused on compliance with international aviation standards, particularly in areas of safety, flight operations, and air traffic control.
According to an official statement posted by the airport, the delegation also evaluated the infrastructure and security protocols, aiming to ensure that any future flights operate under optimal safety conditions.
The initiative is part of broader diplomatic and economic rapprochement efforts between Riyadh and Tripoli, with a shared goal of strengthening air connectivity and promoting bilateral exchanges.
