General Birame Diop, Senegalese Minister of the Armed Forces, will travel to The Gambia for a two-day official visit, from Thursday, April 17 to Friday, April 18, 2025.
This mission aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the areas of
defense and security, according to a statement issued by the Gambian Ministry of Defense.
During his stay, Minister Diop will hold talks with his Gambian counterpart, Brigadier General Sering Modou Njie (Rtd), in a bilateral meeting focused on regional security.
The objective of these talks will be to strengthen existing partnerships and address potential gaps in defense cooperation.
The Senegalese minister also plans a courtesy call on the Vice President of the Gambia National
Assembly, Seedy SK Njie.
In addition, on Friday, General Diop will visit the headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States Mission in the Gambia (ECOMIG) in Fajara, before visiting the Senegalese high commissioner to Banjul.

Cooperation between Gambia and Senegal was highlighted at the second edition of the Gambia-Senegal Economic, Trade, and Investment Forum held in December 2024.
During that occasion, the Gambian VP and Senegalese Prime Minister emphasised the
importance of cooperation, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture, and the digital economy.
