Senegal is finalizing preparations to host the sixth International Congress on Marine Protected Areas (IMPAC 6), scheduled to take place from March 22 to March 26, 2026.
During a preparatory workshop in Dakar on Tuesday, March 3, the Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition, Dr. El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf, led the validation of the strategic and operational frameworks essential for the event’s success.
The workshop focused on approving critical planning instruments, including the event’s draft budget, official logo, and comprehensive communication strategy. These elements are designed to ensure rigorous management and provide optimal visibility for the congress on both national and international stages. Dr. Diouf described the selection of Senegal as a host nation as both an honor and a significant responsibility, noting that it validates the country’s ongoing commitments to ecological transition, the preservation of marine biodiversity, and the promotion of sustainable development.
The Minister called for a unified effort from all stakeholders, including government institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society groups, and coastal communities. As one of the world’s premier forums for ocean conservation, the IMPAC series facilitates critical dialogue between policymakers, scientists, and marine park managers. By hosting IMPAC 6, Senegal aims to provide a high-profile platform to showcase African marine conservation initiatives while fostering strengthened international cooperation to address the resilience of coastal ecosystems and global biodiversity threats.
