Consumer prices in Senegal rose by 1.4 percent year on year in March 2026 according to figures released this Monday by the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).
The rise in consumer prices recorded in Senegal by the ANSD is mainly driven by the increase in prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages 1.7 percent and restaurants and accommodation services 2.7 percent.
The trend is also supported by the rising cost of goods and services related to personal care social protection and miscellaneous goods 2.6 percent furniture household equipment and routine maintenance 1.5 percent health 1.9 percent as well as alcoholic beverages tobacco and narcotics 10.7 percent.
Core inflation which excludes energy and fresh products increased by 2.6 percent on an annual basis.
According to the origin of the products the prices of local goods rose by 2.0 percent while those of imported products fell slightly 0.3 percent.
From the perspective of durability price developments are driven by non-durable goods 1.2 percent services 2.0 percent and durable goods 1.4 percent Semi durable goods recorded a more moderate increase 0.8 percent.
Non-durable goods include products consumed quickly such as food or hygiene products Semi durables concern goods with an intermediate lifespan such as clothing.
Durables refer to goods used over a long period such as furniture or vehicles while services refer to intangible benefits such as health education transport or catering.
