Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye met with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga in Washington on Monday, securing a firm commitment from the international financial institution to support Senegal’s macroeconomic framework and accelerate structural economic reforms.
Leading a high-level ministerial delegation during his working visit to the United States, President Faye outlined Dakar’s development strategy, which focuses on sustainable public policy, private-sector expansion, and long-term fiscal stability. In response, the World Bank confirmed its readiness to help finance the government’s key priority areas over the coming years.
Central to the bilateral talks were targeted interventions in youth employment, energy cost reduction, and social protection. Highlighting Senegal’s young demographic as a primary engine for growth, President Faye stressed the urgency of expanding entrepreneurial opportunities and access to capital—commitments the World Bank agreed to back by fostering a business environment conducive to job creation. Additionally, both leaders emphasized the strategic necessity of lowering national energy tariffs to relieve household burdens and enhance corporate competitiveness, alongside reinforcing social safety nets to protect vulnerable populations as the government pursues its broader economic transformation agenda.
