Senegalese left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf, 20, signed a long-term contract with West Ham United on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from Slavia Prague (Czech Republic).
Born in Dakar on December 28, 2004, El Hadji Malick Diouf, West Ham United’s new signing, played left-back.
Trained first at the Galaxy Football Academy and then at the Mawade Wade Academy in Senegal, he began his European career in Norway in 2023, playing for Tromsø IL.
During his short but successful season, he played 21 matches, scored three goals, and helped his team secure European qualification.
In January 2024, Diouf was signed by Slavia Prague, a major club in the Czech First Division. He quickly established himself in the squad, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 24 appearances during the 2024/25 season, playing an active role in the club’s 16-point victory over the club.
He also played in the Europa League, notably against AC Milan in the round of 16.
Internationally, Diouf made his debut for the Lions of Teranga in September 2024. The young defender went undefeated in six appearances, including a historic 3-1 victory over England in June 2025.
A Senegalese talent at the heart of the Premier League
West Ham United formalised the signing of Diouf on July 15th, a long-term contract, in tribute to his idol Marcelo Vieira da Silva Júnior.
Manager Graham Potter welcomed his arrival, noting: “He’s a young player we’ve been following for some time. He possesses remarkable maturity for his age and great strength of character. His performances have been consistently high, despite the challenges of moving to a new country at just 18 years old.”
An enthusiastic Diouf said: “I’m really happy to be here and to advance my career. I’m looking forward to
working hard and joining my new teammates. There were many teams interested, but I chose West Ham first. After speaking with Graham Potter, it seemed like the right move.”
The player is now preparing to join the Irons’ pre-season training camp in Germany this week. The
London club, who finished 14th in the Premier League last season, are looking to strengthen their squad with this promising young talent as they aim for a better season ahead.
West Ham have taken an important step forward by signing a player who is both defensively solid and capable of contributing offensively, and who already knows the demands of European and international football.
A new face to watch in the English league, where Diouf is keen to make his mark.
