President Bassirou Diomaye Faye conducted an extensive site inspection on Sunday to evaluate the progress of infrastructure projects ahead of the Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
This follow-up visit comes four months after the President’s November 2025 assessment, where he established rigorous development benchmarks under the Ministry of Infrastructure.
While the Presidency described recent progress as “significant,” officials noted that the upcoming rainy season presents a critical variable for construction timelines. President Faye expressed a sense of “increased reassurance” regarding the pace of work but issued a stern warning that “no slackening will be tolerated” as the clock ticks toward the October 2026 opening ceremony.
Beyond the sporting venues, the President also visited the National Oncology Center in Diamniadio, emphasizing the broader developmental legacy of these projects. With competitions scheduled across Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly from October 31 to November 13, 2026, the administration maintains that the Games are a strategic vehicle for elevating the global image of both Senegal and the African continent.
