Somali security forces have stormed the residence of the chief of the Custodial Corps, Gen. Mahad Abdirahman Aden who was recently ousted over alleged insubordination.
Gen Aden widely known as Shub was recently ousted after his backing of a recalcitrant state governor at loggerheads with Mogadishu became common knowledge.
According to information reaching APA, the troopers were stationed outside the General’s home shortly after the Council of Ministers announced his removal from office on Wednesday.
The deployment follows an extraordinary cabinet session where Maj. Gen. Mohamed Sheikh Hassan Hamud was named as his successor.
In addition to the perimeter security, the government has officially withdrawn Gen. Mahad’s personal security detail from the Custodial Corps.
The move is seen as a means of monitoring and restricting the General’s movements following his dismissal, which was reportedly triggered by his political alignment with South West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen.
The deepening political rift between the federal government and Southwest State administration after Southwest State speaker Ali Said Fiqi accused Mogadishu of misusing Egyptian military aid to fuel civil strife.
Fiqi said that the huge small arms aid by Egypt was never intended to protect ordinary Somali citizens or used within the context of resolving internal political disputes.
In a formal statement, the federal interior ministry issued last weekend asserted that President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed, popularly known as Laftagareen, no longer holds a valid mandate in the state’s affairs.
