South Sudan’s foreign affairs ministry has been tasked by President Salva Kiir Mayardit to play a proactive role in improving the country’s image abroad.
Presiding over Wednesday’s swearing-in ceremony of the new Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Akuei Bona Malual, President Kiir said the country is in dire need of effective diplomacy to enhance its image on the international stage.
Oil-rich South Sudan, the world’s newest country has been rocked by political crisis since independence in July 2011, undermining its reputation as peaceful and progressive.
Kiir pledged his full support towards strengthening the foreign Service to help improve its image abroad.
Foreign Minister Monday Semaya Kumba vowed that his team will promote a more positive and accurate representation of South Sudan abroad.
Malual, widely respected as a seasoned diplomat who was once designated as South Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations(2016-2023), pledged to leverage his experience to this end.
