Tripoli International Airport partially reopened on Tuesday, May 20, for private and medical flights, marking a symbolic step toward the eventual resumption of full civilian air traffic in Libya.
Libyan authorities announced the limited reopening via a circular from the Civil Aviation Authority, under the Tripoli-based Ministry of Transport. This decision, made public through the Aeronautical Information System (AIS), detailed the available runways, air corridors, and communications infrastructure. The airport had been closed previously for maintenance.
This partial resumption specifically concerns non-commercial flights, including private planes and ambulance services. It’s part of ongoing efforts to gradually restore civil air traffic in the Libyan capital, an infrastructure often impacted by security instability.
This development also aligns with broader projects for the airport’s future. A memorandum of understanding was recently signed between Libya and Qatar to initiate studies for an investment project aimed at developing Tripoli International Airport.
