Zambia’s Vice President Mutale Nalumango and seven members of her team walked away unharmed after a military helicopter carrying them crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday.
Nalumango said the incident occurred as the group departed an election campaign rally in Nakonde, a town in northeastern Zambia.
The cause of the crash remained unclear.
Following the accident, Nalumango underwent a routine medical check as a precaution and was later discharged in good health, according to an official government statement.
The crash comes during active campaigning ahead of Zambia’s general elections, scheduled for 13 August.
President Hakainde Hichilema is widely expected to win a second term.
