The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is set to begin a major constituency delimitation exercise as part of preparations for the 2026 general election, a senior official announced on Monday.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the commission is in the final stages of planning and will carry out the process in accordance with the recently passed Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 2025.
The exercise will include consultations with stakeholders and the public to ensure transparency and broad participation.
Kasaro said the delimitation must be completed before the voters’ register is certified by 30 April, a key milestone in the country’s election roadmap.
He emphasised that the commission is treating the process with urgency to avoid delays that could affect election preparations.
The 2026 polls will be Zambia’s second general election since the 2021 transition of power and the first under the amended constitutional framework adopted in December 2025.
The vote is expected to be closely watched as political parties begin positioning themselves amid shifting alliances and debates over governance, economic reforms and electoral integrity.
