President João Lourenço on Thursday embarked on a historic state visit in India, marking the first official bilateral trip by an Angolan leader to New Delhi in 38 years.
His visit, taking place from 1-4 May, is part of a diplomatic charm offensive aimed at deepening economic, political and trade relations between the two nations.
Upon his arrival, Lourenço will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhawan on May 3, followed by high-level meetings with Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Discussions will focus on strengthening economic cooperation, expanding investment opportunities, and boosting commercial ties between Angola and India.
A series of memoranda of understanding and agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, setting the foundation for enhanced collaboration across sectors such as energy, infrastructure, defence and capacity-building.
On 4 May, Lourenço will attend a business forum in New Delhi, engaging with industry leaders to promote bilateral investment and trade expansion.
The visit coincides with the 40th anniversary of India-Angola diplomatic relations, reflecting decades of cooperation underpinned by a strong energy partnership.
Bilateral trade between the two nations reached $4.2 billion in 2023-2024, highlighting growing economic ties.
