The Beninese Hajj Guidance and Supervision Committee (COS) has announced the closure of registration for the 2025 pilgrimage to Mecca, stating that payments made after the designated quota was filled will not be accepted and demanding that these payments be refunded.
The COS announced today, May 6th, that the allocated quota of 2,300 pilgrims for Benin for the 2025 Hajj was reached on April 17th. Consequently, any payments made after this date are no longer valid for participation in this year’s pilgrimage.
In a statement released to APA, the COS indicated that despite an extension of the initial registration deadline (originally April 7th) and multiple reminders issued to prospective pilgrims, some individuals submitted their payments after the quota had already been filled. These applicants will unfortunately not be able to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage in 2025. As a result, accredited Hajj travel companies have been instructed to provide full refunds of the received amounts by May 12, 2025. Affected individuals are advised to contact their respective service providers to reclaim their funds. Finally, the COS urged anyone aware of any irregularities in the registration or payment process to report them to the Agency for the Management of Official Logistics (AGLO).
