A third kidney transplant campaign is scheduled for the end of July in Burkina Faso, following two
successful operations at the Tengandogo University Hospital Centre (CHU), the state-owned daily Sidwaya reports.
According to the newspaper’s “Kantigui” section, this new campaign should allow several patients suffering from chronic kidney failure to receive a transplant. The exact number of recipients has not yet been specified.
This initiative is part of the ongoing progress made by Burkina Faso in the field of kidney transplantation. The country’s first transplant was performed on July 29, 2025, at the Tengandogo University Hospital Centre by a Burkinabe medical team, with the support of Turkish specialists.
A 43-year-old patient received a kidney donated by her twin sister.
A second campaign took place on February 3 and 4, 2026, enabling two patients with chronic kidney failure to receive transplants.
According to Sidwaya, those who received transplants during previous campaigns are showing positive results.
The development of this medical expertise marks a major step forward for the Burkinabe healthcare system, offering a new therapeutic option to patients and contributing to a gradual reduction in medical evacuations abroad.
