Burkina Faso reaffirmed its commitment to promoting more inclusive and accessible insurance for
all Africans.
This commitment was made on Wednesday in Ouagadougou, at the opening of the 16th
General Assembly of the Inter-African Federation of Insurance Consultants (FIAC).
Representing Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, the Minister of State for Territorial Administration and Mobility, Emile Zerbo, emphasised that financial inclusion remains a major challenge for African countries despite the progress made in recent years.
Held under the theme “Financial Inclusion in Africa: The Role of Insurance Brokerage in Expanding
Access and Improving Penetration Rates,” the meeting brought together professionals from the sector to discuss solutions for broadening access to insurance across the continent.
According to Mr. Zerbo, in the face of challenges related to climate change, health crises, and
economic uncertainties, insurance is an essential tool for protecting populations, securing investments, and strengthening the resilience of states.
He noted, however, the low penetration of insurance in Africa and called for a strengthening of the role of brokers, considered local actors capable of offering solutions tailored to the needs of the
population.
The Burkinabe government intends to pursue reforms aimed at improving policyholder protection, accelerating the digitization of services, and developing insurance products better suited to local realities.
The interim president of FIAC, Vakaramoko Samake, welcomed the support of the Burkinabe authorities and advocated for increased cooperation among stakeholders in the sector to make insurance a true driver of economic and social development in Africa.
