Burkina Faso’s National Anti-Drug Coordination Committee (CNLD) held its 21st Ordinary General Assembly on Friday in Ouagadougou, providing a quantitative assessment of the country’s anti-drug efforts for 2025.
According to CNLD Permanent Secretary, Police Commissioner Boukary Traoré, more than 13 tonnes of narcotics were seized across the national territory over the past year.
The ceremony was chaired by the governor of the Central region, Abdoulaye Bassinga, representing the Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana.
Governor Bassinga said the session was particularly significant as it would not only review activities carried out in 2025 but also adopt the first annual work plan for implementing the country’s new national strategy.
He recalled that the strategy’s overarching vision is to make Burkina Faso “a country capable of effectively controlling drug trafficking in order to ensure a healthy, secure environment conducive to sustainable development.”
Participants also examined outlooks for the 2026–2030 period, in a context where drug trafficking is described as a cross-cutting threat with health, social, security and economic implications.
