Burundian President General Évariste Ndayishimiye, is expected in Ouagadougou on Monday for a working visit in his capacity as the chair of the African Union, according to a statement from the Presidency of Burkina Faso.
Scheduled for April 20, 2026, the visit will see the Burundian head of state welcomed at the Koulouba Palace by his Burkinabe counterpart, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of Burkina Faso and current Chair of the Confederation of Sahel States (AES).
Talks between the two leaders are expected to focus in particular on strengthening cooperation between the AES and the African Union.
The program also includes visits to socio-economic infrastructure sites in Burkina Faso, often referred to as the “land of upright people.”
According to the Directorate-General of State Protocol, guests invited to the welcoming ceremony are expected at the presidential pavilion of Ouagadougou International Airport from 07:30.
The visit comes amid ongoing reflections on relations between the Confederation of Sahel States—which includes Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger—and regional organizations, particularly on issues related to cooperation and integration.
