The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, expressed his complete confidence about Morocco’s readiness to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking on the sidelines of the institution’s 47th General Assembly held on Monday, in Kinshasa, Patrice Motsepe put to rest rumours about a possible withdrawal by Morocco to host the continent’s football showpiece.
“Our position is very clear. Morocco is Plan A, Morocco is Plan B, Morocco is Plan C,” he declared. “We are absolutely confident that we, as CAF, will cooperate and work hand in hand with the government, the people, and all citizens of Morocco to organise the most successful Africa Cup of Nations in the history of this competition,” Motsepe added, stressing that “no discussion of withdrawal or relocation has ever been on the agenda.”
The CAF president was responding to rumours of a potential withdrawal of the 2025 AFCON from Morocco, as demonstrations have been organised in recent days in several cities across the kingdom by the GenZ 212
collective, calling for reform of the education system and public health services.
The Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
