Central African Republic Minister Richard Filakota and WFP Representative Rasmus Egendal initialed an agreement on Monday aimed at transforming humanitarian action into a lever for sustainable
development.
This is with a view to implementing the National Development Plan (PND-RCA).
The signing ceremony took place at the office of the Minister of Economy, Planning and International Cooperation, Professor Richard Filakota, in the presence of the WFP Country Representative in the CAR, Mr. Rasmus Egendal.
According to Minister Filakota, the agreement is part of President Faustin Archange Touadera’s “clear vision” to move the country from humanitarian dependence towards a sovereign path of sustainable development.
“The WFP, through its professionalism and targeted interventions, remains a key ally in this transformation driven by the PND-RCA,” the minister stated, adding that “the government will remain a committed partner to ensure the success of this national transition.”
Food security and education
The signed protocol notably includes the development of a joint work plan aligned with the PND-RCA, the deployment of integrated programs covering humanitarian aid, recovery, and development, as well as improved coordination with sectoral ministries and local authorities.
The WFP, present in the Central African Republic for several decades, primarily works in the areas of food and nutrition security, assistance to vulnerable households, school feeding programs, and
strengthening community resilience.
Through its support for school feeding programs, the organisation contributes to improving school enrollment in areas with low enrollment rates and to retaining students in primary schools.
The signing comes as elections approach in the Central African Republic, at a time when the authorities are continuing to strengthen their partnerships with international institutions.
Minister Filakota commended the WFP’s approach, based on community engagement, innovation, and measurable impact, emphasising that its actions complement the public investments outlined in the National Development Plan.
